Some spoilers for Psycho (1960)
Luckily for me, when I watch a classic horror film for the first time, I have an ability to disregard just about all the general mediocre scenes that make up a perfect B-Horror flick. For example: Psycho
Psycho was released in 1960. And in 1960, viewpoints, reactions, plots, settings and just about everything that made up a movie are completely different compared to today's standards. But it's almost as if I can place myself in that said year and feel almost exactly what the audience felt.
Believe it or not, as big of a horror fan as I am, I recently watched Alfred Hitchcock's masterpiece, Psycho, for the first time ever. Going into the film, I knew just about everything about Norman Bates. I knew about the shower scene and always had assumed he had done it. But when watching Bates and his demeanor, I was more focused on his mother's psychological differences. SHE was actually what creeped me out when watching the first half of Psycho. After actually seeing the shower scene, Psycho, then had me completely convinced that it was his mother. What a rush that scene was. The eyes were absolutely terrifying. I watched with anticipation as to how Norman would cover up the murders while completely forgetting that Norman Bates is the Psycho all along.
This film is an absolute classic, and it's ashame what newer movies today have turned Psycho into to to the general audience. I am completely blown away as to how well this film was put together. One of the absolute greatest of all time.
