That's multiple personality disorder you're thinking of. Schizophrenia is the inability of the brain to decide what external stimuli to pay attention to and what to ignore. This can give the appearance of multiple personalities; it is one of the most easily mislabeled mental illnesses around.

Paranoid schizophrenics do sometimes hear voices, but that's not the same as having different personalities residing in one mind.

Examples from the media would be as follows: Leon from Pin is a paranoid schizophrenic, and so is Francis Dolarhyde from Red Dragon. Mary Hobbes from Session 9 and Two-Face from the Batman comics have multiple personality disorder.
