Saw this a couple of weeks back. Well done overall; old 70's style suspense and leaving-it-to-your-imagination stuff....building tension, not jam-packed with CGI shit. Good actors, good script, well shot.
The only bone I could pick is that the reason for the haunting / possession was kinda lame...
...but I'd recommend it. Certainly one of the spookiest horror movies I've seen in a good 15 or 20 years. Up there with Session 9.

I quite dug it. Very, very well made movie. Not as spooky as Insidious or Paranormal Activity for me (don't laugh), but it is probably a better made film overall. Very unique paranormal movie.

I ain't laughin'. Paranormal Activity was really spooky for sure. I can't comment on Insidious cuz I haven't seen it.
Oh, I forgot to say...for Watchmen fans, the guy who plays NiteOwl II is in it.

Insidious is my favorite of the three. Conjuring eeks out a close second. As far as spookiness, though, I think Paranormal Activity wins. I just wish the sequels didn't suck something awful every time a knew one was made. The first was great, the second was good, the 3rd was meh, and the 4th just stunk.  |

I really want to see The Conjuring... the previews make it look awesome. These are the kind of horror films I can get into. Sadly, my health is on the fritz along with my Jeep (bad starter) and my wallet... so I might have to wait for it to come to DVD.
Also Jason, I'm not laughing at you about PA either. Remember it even scared my dog ;D

F13, NOES and Halloween spawned excellent follow ups, though. Even though NOES 2 gets crapped on quite a bit. It's still my second favorite of the series.

It seems the in thing to do is profit immediately off a success... without any regard for quality. There are some exceptions, but not nearly enough. |

As far as I'm concerned, F13 ended with part 4, the one it was SUPPOSED to end with. Jason gets it in the head, Tommy's fucked up for life, the end. (BTW...I think F13 2 is one of the only examples of a sequel in any genre out-doing the original...the only other one I can think of off the top of my head is The Dark Knight). NOES stopped being really good after 2, and stopped being even a little good after 3. NOES 2 is a grossly underrated horror sequel...indeed, grossly underrated as a horror film in its own right. Freddy was still scary as FUCK in that one...not the one-liner smartarse he became later. And Halloween should have ended at 4 too (and they should have skipped 3 entirely...basically, 4 should have been 3). The end of 4 is just great....Michael is finally dead for keeps, but his evil lives on in little Jamie. That's the real theme of the Halloween movies; evil is eternal, a force of nature. Its vessel may die, but evil itself is immortal. |
