Wow, this was such an amazing night last night. At about 8:05 PM I heard rumbling overhead. At the time I didn't pay much attention because I was at the end of Scary Movie 2. I heard it again and walked outside. I saw a huge thundercloud in the distance, maybe 5 miles away. It wasn't any ordinary lightning either. It was a dark gloomy purple and was hitting everywhere. I sat out and watched it but I could see it rapidly billowing this way. So I went back in the house and watched from inside.
It moved right over the house and took up the entire city. It looked just like a scene from a horror movie. But worse! Even with the curtains closed the whole living room would light up an eerie purple and you could hear the rain pounding on the roof. I left the curtains open so I can see the lightning from where I was at. The whole damn sky lit a bright purple, it looked like the 1976 4th of July. I would see it strike pretty close to the house and then crr-rr-rrrrack BOOOOM!!! VERY loud. I have never once in my life heard lightning make a "crrraaaccck" sound. I finally got to sleep despite the horrific flashes and noises throughout the town.
I awoke several times and went back to sleep moments later. I awoke at about 2:15 A.M and noticed there was still lightning outside but mild thunder, So I got back to sleep a lot easier. But I awoke at around 4:30 A.M from pretty loud thunder and was lying there, hoping to fall back asleep, then the loudest thunder Ive ever heard happened right then. It sounded like an atomic bomb going off right outside my window. At that point I was obviously wide awake and my ears were literally ringing from the devastating blast. All I could see out the window was the sky lighting up that same eerie purple as it was before, but this time couldn't see the actual flash of lightning. So I wondered if I could see where the lightning would strike if I looked out the back door this time.
I crawled my ass off the couch (I slept there so I could get a better view of the lightning) and walked to the back door and saw the brightest lighting of the sky, I felt the vibration from the strike right as it hit. Unfortunately I couldn't see the strike because of the number of trees out there but then the power went out, and thunder just as loud as the last strike happened again. I believe it struck a telephone pole right near the house because I literally felt the vibration from the strike. So I crawled back onto the couch and waited for morning. I knew sleep was inevitable. The power came back on seconds later and I lay there with my ears plugged because if I hadn't plugged them I probably would be deaf by now. The lightning continued lighting the whole sky again and then more, but not as loud, thunder would boom throughout the sky. After hours of lying there with my ears plugged, the sun slowly came up and burned the thunder clouds away. I was disappointed because it was such a fun night laying there and listening to the bombs that echoed through the sky above. I walked outside and it was a little clear with the thunderclouds separating from each other. Then I could see the clouds looked orange and I could smell fire. I knew a tree of some sort was on fire just a few minutes from my place. They say its supposed to storm again tonight. Maybe I'll have as much fun tonight as I did last night. Who knows, but this time I'll be more prepared.....I might buy some ear muffs.
Check this out!! This is probably an actual strike I witnessed. (scroll below) I'll bet this is right over my head too. What you see here though is nothing compared to what I saw looking out the window.....

my town is Hesperia, which is where most of the storm took place. Actually right overhead sounds more accurate. lol....
