Now watch "Tenebre" is a comment I have heard or read often in the past few months after being acquainted with Dario Argento. Having seen two of his masterpieces, "Deep Red" and "Suspiria", I knew for certain that I had to take this one off the wish list soon. This film is classic Argento in this reviewers opinion. Maybe you don't get the visually stunning aspects that you get from the two films mentioned above, but this film is still good in that area, plus you get the rest; a musical score that fits the film like few others do, death scenes that are captivating (there is just something about the color he uses for blood that is beautiful) and of course the storyline. A novelist, Peter Neal (Anthony Franciosa), travels to Rome on a tour for his new book, which carries the same title as the film. Shortly after Neal's arrival, the killing starts. Detectives visit Neal as a copy of his book was found at a murder scene. Who is the killer? perhaps a fan of Neal's work? maybe someone out for revenge? Neal's experience with writing books of this nature may be enough to help crack the case. What I liked about this film.... Classic Argento, through and through. The kill scenes are great as usual with Argento films. Like I mentioned the color of his blood is intriguing to the eyes. The film doesn't seem to have unnecessary scenes as it all ties together in one way or another. The who done it mystery is one of the best I can remember seeing. And last but not least, and maybe best of all, the Master of the Ending really throws a surprise at you in this one! What could have been better... The only thing I can think of is that it could have been as visually stunning as "Deep Red" or even better "Suspiria". But perhaps I don't have the best edition of the film either. Rating.... 4.5 out of 5. Worth seeing if you are an Argento fan and if you aren't, you should be! Review by Jaysif
