I definatley go for the first Nightmare on Elm Street. I think the worst one was the 6th one i think it just lost its touch and had not feel to it.

I really liked the 3rd and 5th one, and the 1st one as I am... ahem... a Johnny Depp fan... (I'm not a derranged fan girl though...) I thought the New Nightmare was by far the darkest... the build up to Freddy was really effective. I like it. It actually kind of scared me, and I love being scared.
I agree, the 6th one really lost it's edge. It didn't seem to fit for some reason.... Freddy seemed different... And seeing Robert Englund with out the make up on was a little weird. It took all of the horror out of it. The movie almost seemed more like a drama then a horror, what with Freddy's "tramatic childhood" and what not.
Any who, I'm babbling, so I'll shut up before I put you all to sleep.

You make a good point to the New Nightmare, but I just don't like how it's made. It's like watching a movie, in another movie. Weird.
