This is one of those movies that I never get tired of watching. I saw it 3 or 4 times in the theater, wore it out on VHS, got the DVD and am about to get the blu-ray. 9 and a half for sure!
I never understood the critics and their view of ID4. They bombed it, but everybody I know loved it. It also won an Oscar and had another 26 wins & 21 nominations for awards. It had everything you want in a Summer blockbuster, top notch action, special effects, solid acting and a breakout performance by Will Smith and several of my favorite movie quotes ever:
"No, you did NOT shoot that green shit at me! "
"All you need is love, John Lennon, smart man, shot in the back very sad."
"Y'know, this was supposed to be my weekend off, but noooo. You got me out here draggin' your heavy ass through the burnin' desert with your dreadlocks stickin' out the back of my parachute. You gotta come down here with an attitude, actin' all big and bad... and what the hell is that smell? "
There are plenty of zombie and vampire movies... what the world need is more aliens!

Haven't seen it! Should I run to a hole and hide from a beating from you, MIB? It's one of the only movies that everyone has seen but me. I have no excuse as to why I haven't seen it, either. I've just... Never seen it!

Yeah, here I come with my stick...
Nah, I'm not the violent type, but I do think you'd enjoy it. It released at about the same time as Twister. I spent all my money that summer in the theater seeing those things with Marii.

Yep, I remember hearing about it's release. I didn't go to the movies a whole lot as a kid. I wish I did, though. I remember Chris wouldn't shut up about it. I think he saw it in theaters. To this day, he gives me crap for having not seen it. Rightfully so! Everyone's seen it but me.

It probably won't have as big of an impact for a first time viewer today because the special effects of ID4 and Twister had never really been seen like that before. Sitting in a theater watching the citywide explosions from the alien ships just took my breath away. Now you see stuff like that in all kinds of movies.
But, the effects haven't aged badly and I think the movie has a great story and acting as well. From the main characters of Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum, to the supporting roles and bit parts from everyone - Bill Pulman, Randy Quaid (who plays an identical character to Christmas Vacation almost) to Judd Hirsch, Harry Connick Jr. and even Data himself - Brent Spiner.

I'm happy to say that aged movies still have a good effect on me! One of my all time favorite films in Psycho. And that came out 50 friggin' years ago!

Psycho aged well, I think. ID4 ages well too, but the effects are not going to shock you anymore... after Transformers, Iron Man etc...

Iron Man rocked me socks. I've yet to see Transformers, though. I wish I'd've seen it in the theater.
