Plot Outline: Following the Normandy Landings, a group of US soldiers go behind enemy lines to retrieve a paratrooper whose brothers have been killed in action.

My Grandfather landed at Normandy a few days after D-Day in the 2nd wave. He walked from there to Czechoslovakia. He pretty much saw it all and came back with several medals including a Bronze Star... if I have a real hero - he is it.

I asked him to go to the theater to see Saving Private Ryan with me and was surprised when he agreed. The result was a night that will always remain one of my most treasured memories. During that first 30 minutes of the film that is renowned for being so gruesomely accurate, I think he went back there... Afterward, he let loose with a flood of stories. He wasn't sad, instead he seemed energized. I just listened, and felt that I had my own little stake in history right there in my car with me.

I remember seeing bits and pieces of this when I was younger. I do have the film, but haven't seen it in it's entirety.

That is a very touching story about you and your Grandpa.

He's 90 years old. He's in the hospital right now and not doing to good. It's debatable whether he will ever get to come home again. He's very tough though and he's made it home several times before when nobody thought he would.
