Jason also seems to have an ability to track people over long distances. In part 2 he finds Annie 5 years later, presumably without doing much investigating as a P.I. would, considering he probably didn't know her full name and couldn't exactly go door-to-door interviewing people. It was also long before the days when you could just google someone or look them up on Facebook...and even if it weren't, I don't think his little cabin would have had wi-fi.

His level of stealth and knowing exactly where to be at the right time to get someone border on supernatural as well, I'd say.

I have a question. It's old, it's trite, and it's been pretty well worked over among the fans for years, but I'll ask anyway. just to see what your take on it is.

Also, what's with the silence? Is Jason unable to speak, or does he just have nothing to say?

By the way, that bit you mentioned earlier about his face being partly decomposed isn't canon with the films. The director and make up guys said they imagined Jason as being deformed since birth; "severe hydrocephalus" to quote.

In my opinion, Jason doesn't seem to have the mannerisms of someone who is mentally retarded. That's all we really have to go by, since he never speaks. I don't think he's unable to speak. Throughout his life he was always quiet. It seems to me that he's doing work that needs to be done... As morbid as it is.
