Ewwww gross... A CHICK FLICK!  I actually kinda enjoyed it. A lot of parts were entirely too corny, for me. But it wasn't too bad. 6/10 |

My reaction to Titanic is much like the one I had with The Mist. The ending completely and utterly ruined it for me.
For some reason people making movies have got it in their heads that if we just throw in a tragic, depressing, and/or shocking ending scene then it will make the whole film somehow a classic. I will always be a glass half full guy... unnecessary unhappy endings will always be unnecessary to me.
It was actually a good movie, and I love James Cameron's style. The drowning children and the ending just made me sick.
On a side note, I do love that song. Marii sang it at our wedding.

Wow! That is awesome.
I wasn't as upset about the ending to that movie, though. Wasn't it based on the actual happenings of the Titanic sinking? (Aside from the romance story, of course)

You are right, the basis of the story is depressing from the get go... I just personally hate endings that could go the other way and the movie be just as good... I'm just weird... happy endings are underrated.
Some movies are OK with me ending like that... Gladiator, Saving Private Ryan for example would not have been the same film without their endings. Titanic and Armageddon however... in my opinion didn't need that particular type of tragic ending. There is another movie that is about war and tragedy but has an ending type that I believe would have fit Titanic and made it an even better ending - Flyboys with James Franco.
Sorry to be so vague in my examples... I'm trying to be good about the spoiler thing ;D
