I didn't think the story/plot was all that interesting but what was there was presented perfectly. The lighting, score, pace and acting blended into an unnervingly believable film with a particularly strong ending. I'll give it a 7.5

The lack of score during the first few intense scenes improved the scare factor. One of my favorite things about this one. Great flick. 9/10

That's a really effective thing to do... lots and lots of films have just too much music. And many of those have bad music. Saving Private Ryan did that right also.

I think the lack of score when a film is attempting to go for "terrifying" usually works best, but films like Psycho (shower scene) and Insidious (baby bedroom invasion scene and the very, very end) utilize the score perfectly. I think I slightly prefer Insidious' score to Psycho.

That Psycho music is legendary though... it's like the da dump, da dump... of Jaws. But I totally agree the quieter it is the more terrifying it can get.
