Here is my Top Ten List for the most exciting types of plays in sports. I just used the three major sports... There are plenty of awesome moments in individual games like in the Olympics and X-Games, but I just narrowed it down to football, baseball and basketball.
10. The Double Play
The amazing reaction time and the speed at which the ball
smacks leather keeps the double play on Sports Center
highlights every night.
9. The Put-Back Slam
I love these because they always come out of nowhere.
Your eyes are following the ball and the player who shot it...
then BAM! My favorite put-back slam was (Bulls vs Blazers) when
Scottie Pippen missed a free-throw and Michael Jordan flew in
from behind him throwing it back down with one hand. Jordan
had six of these in his career.
8. The Alley Oop
It's a simple play, a basic pass... turned into a circus trick. Alley
oops often drive daggers into the heart of the opposition and
I love to watch the slow motion replays from every angle.
7. The Breakaway TD Run
I love watching running backs, it's my favorite part of my favorite
sport. They don't have too many flashy plays. Mostly they bulldoze
their way for a few yards. But when they do burst through to the
secondary or take a pitch to the outside and streak down the field...
it always gets my heart pounding.
6. The Pick-Six
This is another back breaking play, especially if the offense was about
to score - a fourteen point turnaround in the blink of an eye. I love
the returns that involve laterals!
5. Punt/Kick Return TD
Billy White Shoes Johnson, Deion Sanders and Devin Hester... very few
players have been so fearsome that some opposing coaches won't
even kick their direction. One missed tackle and... speed kills.
4. The Grand Slam
The ultimate nail in the coffin... most of the time a grand slam pretty
much means game over for the other team. Sluggers are licking their
chops when they step up to the plate with the bases loaded...
four RBIs, a HR and a run scored.
3. The Walk-Off HR
Your team has fought and sweated in ninety-five degree heat for
thirteen innings. The manager has no choice but to put in the last
healthy arm in the bullpen - the rookie. The leagues HR leader waits
at the plate with two outs in the bottom of the 13th... guess how
this one ends.
2. Game Winning TD Pass/Catch
Now here is a play where the build-up is everything. After three
grueling hours the game ends with precision timing, a great play
call and a little luck. In big games these are the moments
that history remembers.
The Most Exciting Play in Sports is:
1. The Game Winning Shot
Whether it's a pick up game on the street, the NCAA tournament or
the NBA Finals... a game winning basket causes more instant
excitement than any other play. Just ask Brian Russell
and his broken ankles...
