It's obviously too early to judge, but the just going by the trailer, I think this one is going to be great. It looks like they really captured the true intentions of the 1981 classic (which is pure, unthinkable terror) and applied it to this generation. I'm not going to go in expecting anything, because remakes are generally a let down, but can anyone guess where my ass will be the weekend this movie hits theaters?

THIS POST MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS.
I quite dug it. There are a few things that don't sit entirely too well with me, though.
Firstly, my only confusion was with the girl that kept haunting Mia. Were we actually seeing the girl again? Or was it the affects of coming down from her drug use (which I wasn't fond of). Also, if we were indeed seeing the girl, I thought her spirit was at rest?
Onto the film.
I wasn't a fan of the drug addiction plot. I like that they took a step away from the "party time" motive to go to the cabin, but I would've preferred something a little less dramatic than drugs. I didn't totally like that the demon wasn't anonymous, either.
I have absolutely no complaints with the second act. It was phenomenal. As solid of a remake as you'd hope it would be. I was impressed. Just wish each character had equal involvement with the film. David's girlfriend for example. We barely knew ye. So her death didn't have an effect on me so much. The bathroom scene, the possessed hand scene, the nail gun scene, all very memorable and unique. I appreciate that they were able to make it feel so similar to the original while taking a somewhat different route.
I was pretty bummed with the ending. The brutality, ruthlessness and overall terror is what I appreciate about the original so much. I felt that actually bringing his sister back to life for one last "I forgive you, goodbye" was a little too hollywood cliche for this type of film. I thought they could've done better.
All in all, this film only made me appreciate the original even more than I already do. Which I am grateful for.
I give this film a 6.5/7 out of 10.

I liked this movie. The drug addiction thing was good, because it provided a false reason for Mia's fucked-upedness that the other characters could bullshit themselves about.
The only bone I could pick is that some of the dialogue needed work, especially that hippie guy's lines. Some were just outright bad.
Oh, and the East Indian / black / latina / mulatto / whatever the fuck that hot bit of brown sugar was died way too soon. No character development there.
Other than that, this movie kicked the arse of the overrated piece of shit that was the original.
There. I said it.
Mindless arse-kissing Campbell-worshipers, bring on the hate.

I'm not a Campbell worshiper, so much as I am a lover of the original. I didn't care that the film lacked Ash, because he didn't become an icon until the sequels. It did what I hoped it would, but a few gripes here and there don't sit very well with me.
Overall, I enjoyed it, but the quality is nowhere near the superb level of the original, in my opinion.
