Movie Marathon

Anyone gonna watch some F13 movies? If so, how many? All the ones you own? Just a few?

I am saving horror for our October Challenge next month. This includes Friday the 13th, since I plan on visiting the entire series again.

Are you going to have a marathon, Simon?

No, not me. I'm having a pub night with my buddies.

We changed the pub night to Saturday, so maybe I'll watch 1 or 2 of my favorites...which is to say the first two.

I can't change my vote, though.

I might try to get in a viewing of the 2nd F13th film. It's been on my list for about a year. I haven't seen it since I was in high school. I didn't really even remember that a Friday 13th was coming up.

On the subject of F13 2, I've always liked it the best of the whole series. (Yes, even more than the original). Jason is at his most believable in this one; he's not a massive hulk, (which he wouldn't be, growing up in the woods and living off squirrels and tree roots or whatever)...he moves with a stooped hunch, he actually RUNS after his victims, or sneaks up and kills them from behind, he shows fear of physical harm, (i.e. Ginny coming at him with a chainsaw)...

...and most of all, he just seems the most demented, the most savage of all the Jasons we've seen over the years. And that makes him scary.

On top of that, the film is very dark, and builds at a nice pace from "everything's fine" to "holy shit we're wading in blood". (The excellent score goes a long way to creating the tension and feelings of dread and doom too). Jason is a lurking presence that we don't even really see until the last 20 minutes or so, and that's GOOD. Trotting him out right away, like they did in the later films, ruins the build-up.

Part 4 is the ultimate slasher movie, in my opinion. 6 is probably the most entertaining for me, though.

The series as a whole is just too fun to watch. I also do love part 2. When I was first getting into them, part 2 hardly seemed to get any love on the reviews I read. But it seems like people are at least coming around to it. It's one of the best of the series. Beats everything Hodder ever did. That's for sure.
