RIP Warrior...
You gave your body to the fans like so many others in the business. A supernova flame that burned bright but quick.
I was a huge Hulk Hogan and Ultimate Warrior mark when they faced off at Wrestlemania. That match is in my top 3 of all time, if not my number one favorite. Nothing had ever been done like that storyline and it is legendary now.
I watched the HOF ceremony this year for 2 reasons, to see what goofy shenanigans Scott Hall and company pulled for Razor Ramon's induction and more importantly to see what was in Warrior's own words "the most anticipated HOF speech in history." Warrior did not disappoint. If you ever watch one and only one WWE HOF induction... make it that one.
Then I marked out one final time for the Ultimate Warrior as he made a surprise appearance on RAW. At first he wasn't in character, but then he feigned confusion and a lack of words. Out of his pocket he pulled an 80's style Warrior mask and cut his last promo as the character that made him a household name.
It's just my opinion at this point, but as a disabled person who deals with severe pain and discomfort on a daily basis... I believe Warrior knew he was in very bad shape. His mannerisms gave him away. That said, his words on RAW constituted the most eerie and one of the truest moments in wrestling history.
No WWE talent becomes a legend on their own. Every man's heart one day beats its final beat. His lungs breathe their final breath. And if what that man did in his life makes the blood pulse through the body of others and makes them believe deeper in something larger than life then his essence, his spirit, will be immortalized. By the story tellers, by the loyalty, by the memory of those who honor him and make the running the man did live forever. You, you, you, you, you, you are the legend makers of Ultimate Warrior. In the back I see many potential legends. Some of them with warrior spirits. And you will do the same for them. You will decide if they lived with the passion and intensity. So much so that you will tell your stories and you will make them legends, as well. I am Ultimate Warrior. You are the Ultimate Warrior fans. And the spirit of the Ultimate Warrior will run forever!
