I love horror films. But I Also love documentary films, fictional or based on real life. I recently watched a fictional account of the serial killer Richard Speck. Richard Speck was a depraved rapist, sadist and murderer in the sixties. He murdered tortured and raped 8 women in 1966 and allegedly more than that before this incident. I love these documentaries because they are a glimpse into the real life monsters that lurk in real life. I have always been facinated with serial killers. The thought that there are real people, out there stalking human beings and making them into the victims of their sick fantasies makes me wonder about many things. I have seen many of these documentaries, and I will post about more soon. But I recommend searching out and watching these movies, not just for shock value, but for the education about the darker side of the human race.

The main one that interested me the most was the Zodiac killer. I learned of him back in high school and was always fascinated with what I learned about him. A more recent interest was BTK, but I think a big part of my interest came from him being caught. Hard to believe he was a minister and had a wife and adult children, who apparently never knew of his past. I suspect his wife did, though.

Well the main reason I am so interested in serial killers is pretty gruesome. One of the victims, Jaqueline Leah Lamp was my mothers cousin, my second cousin. She was raped, tortured and murdered, found in the bottom of a ravine with a screwdriver in her ear. My mother told my sibs and I the story to scare us out of accepting rides with strangers. Another creepy incident involves my Grandfather. When Gerald Gallegos was actively murdering girls here in Sacramento, he was a regular in the bar he worked at as a second job. As well as that, my best friends aunt was involved with him as well for a bit. I sorta feel like these events are a talisman of sorts, I mean, lightening struck not twice but 3 times. These stories are completely true, as my mother told me about Gramps and I knew my bfs aunt. Creepy. That started my intense interest in both serial killers and profilers.

Yeah, I imagine that would do it. When I was a young kid, my Dad and I would hang out outside and he would play rock music on his big speakers. A guy would always come around and hang out with us. I'm not sure where my Dad ever met him, but he would always stop by when my Dad was playing music and I guess that's the way he befriended him. Then one day we saw him on the news, wanted for murdering his mother. I think he fled to New York or somewhere in the upper east side. Pretty sure he was caught. I think California just isn't a safe place.
