yeah, i remember in one of the early UFCs i think it was 4 when a bunch of the guys ended up getting hurt. i believe Keith Hackney broke his hand from punching the 600+pound Emmanual Yarbarough and couldn't continue for his next fight. then some other guys got hurt like Royce Gracie (from fatigue) and Ken Shamrock (who knows?) and some guy who was just an alternate ended up stepping in and got lucky and won the friggin' tournament. but the gloves they use now are only like 4 ounces and they just cover the knuckle. whats different about the UFC now is they they're governed by boxing sanctions which is why they can't have tournaments (more than 1 fight a night) and they have weight classes, no shoes (like wrestlers like to wear), no shirts (like a Gi which Judo fighters tend to wear), etc. but the good news is that California is extremely close to passing a law for MMA which could mean that when the UFC does get to do shows there then some of their rules will/could be loosened up. also Pride is close to coming to the US for a show once the MMA law passes. they have some rules that slightly differ. one that i hate the most is that they allow "soccer" kicks and stomps to downed opponents. personally i think thats too dangerous. i find it weird they allow that but they don't allow elbows to the head.

elbows to the head when not expected could kill a man. The main weak spot is the temple.
