I LOVE Streets of Philadelphia, and the movie he wrote the song for, too! I love so many Bruce Springsteen songs, though. It probably hits my top 5, but I actually have no idea where songs sit outise that 50 list. I know War Pigs and Hells Bells are probably pretty close. I also love Cover Me and I'm Goin' Down by Bruce, too. Have you heard those? And thanks for not widening my most awesomest list evarrr, I'll checky that vid out once I get home. People still won't shut the HELL UP!

The cool thing is that there are plenty that I haven't heard or don't recognize. I'll be coming back to your list to check them out along with the help of Youtube. Which songs are you unfamiliar with?

Lol, I was thinking it would be easier for me to keep up with them all with a list last night.
Quite a few of the songs I'm sure I'm not familiar with and as far as I know I've never even heard of Red Rider, Sammy Johns or The Band. I've never been much of a music historian... I'll admit that.
If the music doesn't do something for me personally then I have a tendency to pay it little attention. I do like to try out lots of different types and artists... but if they don't strike a chord in my strange brain then I'm likely to forget about them.

Usually, for me. It takes multiple listens to actually like a song. I can't think of many in recent memory that I've liked right away. I mentioned Sammy Johns, Chevy Van, at The Black Hole some months back. You did give that song a listen. The Band's song, The Weight, is pretty darn popular. It's generally considered a theme song of classic rock. I would be surprised if you didn't know it. And Red Rider, Lunatic Fringe is the only song I've heard from them. They were a one hit wonder. Didn't release much music. But that song had a pretty heavy impact.

I probably have heard those songs you mentioned... but I don't recognize them without hearing the music I guess.
I haven't forgot about the Chevy Van listen... I just meant that I hadn't heard of him before you showed me that song. And I do listen to most things more than once unless it just makes me cringe... then I back away quickly ;D I didn't mean to sound like I write off music without a second listen.
Songs that I really like immediately usually throw up red flags for me, because I know I'll get tired of it quickly. It's the ones that I start thinking about later, then come back for more that usually wind up being my favorites.
One of my favorite hobbies is to gather up loads of songs by people I've never heard and listen to them or parts of them. I sift through and will then try and find the album of the ones I want to hear more of. Then eventually my very favorite ones will make their way onto my MP3 player or a cd playlist. And regardless of what music companies may think of downloading... they make more money off me because of illegal files. I always buy the album if I really like the songs to support the artists... who I would have never heard of without file sharing sites to browse.

Songs that I would get tired of quickly were the newer ones I used to listen to as a teen. It's not that I would play them out, really. They just never stood the test of time in the music genre. Now I have about 1,000 songs on my iPod that I've listened to for years and have never gotten tired of. It's pretty amazing how that happens.
And my Dad is the same way about music. He prefers to buy the albums to support the artists. It was very easy for me to get my music, though. Because he has coutnless CDs of the great mucis I like and I was able to use his albums to put onto my iPod. It inspired me to buy a lot of CDs that he either, doesn't own, or doesn't have the album with most of the songs I like. It's a shame you can't upload vinyl albums to the iPod. I'd have a LOT more songs on there, thanks to Dad. Hahaha.
One of the only newer bands (compared tot he stone age songs I listen to) that has stuck with me through my teen years is Muse. I still love the Absolution album.

Hey, music is one of the most personal things human beings can have. If the songs make you happy or reach you somehow that you need... that's what's important. That's really cool that you and your Dad have a similar taste in music like that.
And next time you want to upgrade your mp3 player let me know... there are so many better choices than the iPod. I can point you in the direction of a few that let you drag and drop any audio or video file directly from your computer... supporting any format including vinyl. The one I've got (which is older now) even hooks up directly to my sattelite box and I can put TV shows and movies from there onto it to take with me. The coolest thing is that it was a good bit cheaper than the iPod. The iPod is not a bad device... it's the restrictions they put on it that make it nearly worthless.
