This is the most special start to a football season for me ever... Yeah he's nearly the smallest kid on the team. And no he's not starting... half the time I'm pretty sure he doesn't know what's going on... but my boy is on the gridiron this year. David had his first scrimmage last Saturday and today is his first game. He got in there for a while last week and hopefully he'll get to play a bit today. They first had him as an end but they've been practicing him at safety this week as he is a good tackler... so I'm not sure what he'll play today.

That is fantastic. Is he having fun out there?
The great thing about being small is it gives you the experience of playing with the bigger kids, and in the long run it makes you better, especially when you're pitted against guys your size.
Has he been on any offensive plays?

Yes, he played only on offense in the scrimmage and in their first game today he played quite a bit at TE. He made a killer block that sprung the RB for about a 30 yard gain... I was a bit excited at that one. And yes he's having a freakin' blast. You can tell he is so proud of what he's involved in. The little buggers won 24 - 6 in their first game. I was surprised at how much David got to play and even more tickled at how effective he was. He blocked extremely well and opened big holes on a long run and two of the TDs. He also flattened another little guy but he had two big ole handfuls of jersey and he got called for holding... it was pretty funny - got a picture of part of the holding below. As for the size thing... he'll grow. It's his first year and he's not a little dude. He's skinny but he's waaay bigger and taller than me at that age (or in 5th grade for that matter). The other kids are just pretty huge... they have a really big and fast team for that age... it's more fun to watch than I thought. None of that matters though... he's having fun and learning a ton and that's all that means anything to me - I'll never be one of those dads that require him to start or be quarterback and such. As long as he does it the right way he'll get only support and cheers from me. Ah well on to the inevitable pictures - and David is #31 He made two good blocks on this play And then he drew every yellow hanky in the place on this one... This is David's buddy (who is fixing his helmet in the pix above) scoring another TD

In the second to last pic, it looks like he was born to do this My Dad was the same way with me, just let me do my thing as long as I enjoy it. I let people tell me I was too small for football, so I never even bothered trying out. Pretty devastating, too, as my dream when I was a kid was to play football. Oh well, I still get my kicks playing with friends on Sunday mornings. It's been basketball, lately, but I think we'll have more people today. Glad David's enjoying it. In my opinion, organized sports/team sports is about the greatest thing in the world. Not only are you active and getting in shape, but it just molds you into a better person. You learn humility, respect, sportsmanship, and a bunch of other things. And you get to have a blast doing it. Hope he decides to stick with it so the Broncos can draft him in 15 years. ;D

In that picture you are talking about he is 'born to' join the stampede of hungry munchkins toward the victory snack party ;D ;D ;D If they had all went after the other QB like that he would have been in trouble You can even see him licking his lips. It is a good shot of him though - I thought the same way as he really looks like a football player there.

The Dolphins can lose to NE twice and not make the playoffs. Clemson can lose to SC. Alabama can win the National Championship. The Panthers can lose the rest of their games. All that could happen and this will still be the best football season so far for me... Because: My boy is a Super Bowl Champion at age 7!!!! His team, The Wolverines, had the best record at 8-2 and won the SB game Saturday to take home the trophy!

Wow! That's awesome! I didn't notice the trophy at first. How cool. Brought Dad home a Super Bowl ring, eh? How did David do out there?

He did good and made a lot of improvement since the beginning of the year.
The coaches didn't put him in a whole lot, but continuously praised him for trying so hard and never missing practice. They made him a captain! He grew some and put on muscle and is not the smallest anymore. He now knows the game of football and is poised to play a lot next year as he'll be one of the older kids then.
The bottom line is that it has been great for him. You can tell he is proud to be a part of that group... and I think every single boy likes him and wants to be around him.

Made him a captain. That is awesome. He's gonna be a great player, I think. Sounds like he's got the Tebow work ethic.

David is at it again. They've been practicing all summer and the first scrimmage is Saturday. He has come along way. He's grown a lot and he can now actually run... lol. He's one of the fastest 2 or 3 on the team. He also has caught the coaches eyes throwing the football. They've found out what I already knew... he has an arm many high school guys would be jealous of. (I've been training him to throw since he was 4) I'm hoping they will let him pass a little. He won't be a QB this year because at this age group the QB doesn't really pass, he is a wildcat man that runs and hands off. That's not David's thing - running like a RB, but he'll be a great passer as they get older and that becomes a part of the offense. I haven't got any pictures yet, but you know I will I'm going to try to do some YT clips of him passing as well.
