Personality wise, Marino, Elway, and Peyton are so different. With the records thing Marino always puts on a good face and says the right things but, watching him all those years I can tell he's seething mad because he never had much help and hates to lose the records too. And I know Elway was always just a bit behind Dan stat wise because he had running backs to eat the yards from him, but I think he'd have just been plain pissed if he lost all those records (because he and Dan were/are so fiery competitive). And Manning, like I said, just gives zero F's.

I wasn't around for Elway's early career, but my Dad always told me that Dan Reeves would never set Elway loose and always wanted to run the ball. Which is why all those 4th quarter comebacks came into play, as running the ball didn't do anything for points and Elway just kinda had to do it his way. I heard about a pool table Elway bought for his home like 20 years ago, he played somebody and lost the first game, sold the pool table and got another one. That's how competitive he was.  The NFL has become so weak and coddling to the receivers and especially QBs that we're probably one or two generations away from a QB averaging 600 TDs and 160 INTs in his career. |
